FINDING THE RIGHT HOME

preparation Start your home search by familiarizing yourself with the area. Are there certain neighborhoods that grab your interest? Prepare questions about these neighborhoods for your real estate agent.

Explore the Area.

Visit neighborhoods you are interested in and explore the area and get a feel for what it would be like to live in the area. Get to know how far away schools, employment and your favorite shopping centers area in comparison to the home. Start getting a sense of the homes available in those neighborhoods to help you find the best fit.

Important Features.

Select a few homes that interest you and fit you the best. Now you may not find the perfect home but find the features that are most appeal like a two car garage, a finished basement, close to schools, a large master bedroom with a walk-in closest and have your real estate agent make appointments to visit them. Always keep in mine the potential long-term re-sale value of the homes you are considering, your real estate agent should be able to help you determine that value.

Making an Offer.

When you are ready to make an offer, your agent will help you determine an appropriate offer that a seller may accept. Your agent will also offer insight on any unforeseen expenses you might encounter such as potential costs and maintenance repairs.

It is also a good idea to speak to your lender about a mortgage preapproval if you require financing. With a preapproval, you will be prepared to make a serious offer when you find the perfect home.

Also, be prepared to bring your checkbook when making an offer. In order to show the seller your serious you will be asked to put down an earnest deposit check of a $1000 or more.
