CHOOSING A REAL ESTATE AGENT
One of the most important parts of buying a home is having a trusted real estate agent on your side. A licensed, experienced agent will be able to assist you with any questions and concerns, and will be your advocate through any possible issues that may arise during the process.
Remember not all agents are created equal so you many want to consider some of the following factors when considering prospective buyer’s agents:
How long has the agent been working in the local real estate market? Are they familiar with the area of your interest?
Local real estate markets vary greatly, and having an agent with knowledge and experience specific to your area is a must.
Some agents are more familiar with other areas or types of transaction (Investment Properties, Short Sales, Foreclosures) so it best to find an agent who has the right knowledge.
How much time will the agent have to dedicate to you?
An agent with too many clients or part-time may not be available when you need them most.
Can the agent provide you with a list of references?
Past clients can give your inside information on dealing with a specific agent.
Do you feel comfortable with the agent? Do they return your calls promptly?
Trust your intuition when it comes to choosing an agent. Interview as many agents as you need to until you feel comfortable. Find someone who listens attentively to your needs and concerns. Remember time is money when buying a home.
Are they a full-time or part-time agent?
Key to a successful real estate transaction is a full time agent. They are there 24hr a day 7 days a week to answer your questions promptly and help you view properties. A part-time agent face other challenges and may not give you the proper service you need or desire.
Do they strive to improve and gain knowledge of the latest real estate trends?
Find an agent dedicated to continues education and who is on top of the latest trends you desire.
